Netflix joined forces with Roblox and created Nextworld

On May 9th, the new metaverse called Nextworld created by Netflix in partnership with Roblox entered early access.

Many people still remain skeptical about the metaverse and this is normal. So was this really the best choice? Believe it or not, but I would say it was brilliant.

Let’s take a look at how Netflix structured its campaign. At the end of this article you should understand why Netflix maintains its position as the largest streaming platform in the world.

What is the focus of the metaverse?

Netflix’s goal is to create a theme park within Roblox for its successful titles. The Nextworld project is still in the early stages, but we can see titles like:

  • Stranger Things
  • One Piece
  • Cobra Kai
  • Rebel Moon
  • Jurassic World

Did you notice anything in common between these titles? They are all popular among young people and do not have a very high age rating.

This means that the focus of Netflix’s campaign is on younger people, but will young people play this? Yes, because it’s on Roblox

Why Roblox?

Roblox currently has over 70 million daily active users. That’s more than the population of all of France, or half of Russia. Scary, isn’t it?

A large part of these millions of people is concentrated in young people under 13 and between 13-17. This fits perfectly with the choice of titles that Netflix decided to choose when creating its theme park.

Furthermore, this is not the first time that Roblox has created partnerships between brands. Twenty One Pilots have already performed a virtual concert within the metaverse. Vans also created its own metaverse called “Vans World” with a large skate park.

Future Potentials for Nextworld

The project Nextworld is still in Early Access and was opened to the public on May 9, 2024. Honestly, there’s still a lot of work needed to develop the metaverse and make it fun and popular, but what happens next?
